Duncan Chessell, has left today for India to commence a SEA to SUMMIT ascent of Mt Everest.
Duncan will cycle from near Calcutta on the Indian Ocean, 1000km to Kathmandu starting on the 23rd of March 2010.
Once he reaches Kathmandu he will do some work for a few days in prep for the Everest expedition, then ride to Everest base camp - another 600km in 6 days or so, as the air gets ever thinner and colder. A total of 1600km of distance to cycle!
This extended ride is a final stage in his fitness preparation for Everest.
Once at base camp, Duncan will lead a team of about 50 international climbers to various parts of the mountain, with 38 of those, including Duncan, aiming for the top
This is Duncan's 4th, and largest, expedition to Everest. He has reached the top twice before and his last expedition was the most successful Australian Everest ever. (15 of 19 to the summit).
